Como- Sirmione – Lago di Garda
The day started in the gloomy, wet, and sludgy Camping International. We were lucky enough to talk to Ashley in Sydney for her 7th birthday, Gwen for her birthday and to Mum and Dad to catch up on all the news.
We bolted as soon as they opened the gate and headed down into Como, where being a Sunday, parking for campervans was plentiful. We had a fantastic walk around despite the rain and enjoyed the relative quiet of a Sunday morning.
Coffee and brioche capped it off.
A couple of hours on the autostrada and we reached Lago di Garda. Things were looking up, the sun was out and we found a parking spot! We were headed for Sirmione, which is a finger like projection at the south end of the lake. On the very end is a beautiful castle Rocca Scaligera and walled town. Everyone really enjoyed climbing around the castle and the views were spectacular. All that castle action meant the boys needed some swords to really get into the spirit. After the obligatory gelati we started the trek back to the car. This was the only downside of the day –a 5km round trip by foot. The kids were legendary, with Hamishy only needing some piggyback assistance towards the very end.
We are camping tonight at Bella Italia – an absolutely enormous holiday park – think Adventure World jammed full of campervans, little holiday houses and Dutch vacationers. It’s a bit big for our liking, but after the sludge of Como we are happy. The kids are stoked, as there is a massive heated pool and enormous water playgrounds. It’s also on the lakefront so we can’t complain!
Thanks David The blog says it all – you’re having a ball! Mum continues to recuperate. We are off to eat out for lunch today…… Love the photos Love to all
